Sean Ewen, MD, EMT
Founder & Executive Director
While attending college and medical school, Dr. Ewen worked for six years as an EMT and Supervisor for University of Minnesota EMS as well as for St. Paul Public Schools to oversee emergency medical support for high school athletic games.
He graduated Summa cum laude with a B.A. in Biology from the University of St. Thomas and received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Ewen also serves as CEO of ITphysicians, a healthcare technology consulting firm.
Joanne Ewen, JD, EMT, DOT-I
Director of Education
Joanne is often the first line of contact for anyone interested in our programs. She is an EMT, attorney (practicing mediation), and former college professor of criminal justice. She uses her extensive experience and working with students as an academic advisor and mentor in her role at Allied Medical Training. Helping people achieve their goals is her passion in life.
In addition, Joanne is a member of the Regional Faculty for Multi Regional Training Center, an American Heart Association training center. She organizes the AHA training programs offered by Allied Medical Training to the public and to EMS professionals.
Chad Larkin, Paramedic
CPR Coordinator & Instructor
Chad has been an EMT since 2011, having worked in event based and camp EMS. Recently, he furthered his education in EMS by becoming a Paramedic and currently practices in that capacity with an ALS transport service. His teaching experience includes leading youth on outdoor expeditions, teaching hunter safety and ecological awareness in a summer camp environment and teaching CPR/AED/FA courses.
He most recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s of Individualized Studies focusing on Public Health, Life Sciences and Sociology. He has been teaching with Allied Medical Training since 2013.
Jenny Ewen, BA, EMT
Marketing & Student Services
Jenny attended the University of Toronto and earned a BA in Professional Writing & Communication, where her favorite class was about scientific and medical writing.
Before joining Allied Medical Training, she worked at a Minneapolis-based magazine and then at an advertising agency. She is an accomplished author of numerous publications online, in-print, and textbook, and currently writes and edits for The Allied Times.
James Ewen, AAS, EMT
Student Services & Exam Coordinator
James has been working with Allied Medical Training since early 2013 and is the primary contact for EMT Initial students from orientation through their final exam. He enjoys seeing the transformation from bystander to knowledgeable EMT that the students go through over the twelve-week course.
In his spare time, James likes to play music with his band, Electric Anthem, and brew award-winning beer.
Pete Johnson, EMT/Firefighter
Pete works for Allied Medical Training as an EMT and CPR Instructor. He enjoys the learning process and working with students to help achieve their goals. He also provides EMT instruction at Centennial Fire Department, where he is an on-call firefighter and Fire Prevention Lieutenant. As a Firefighter/EMT, Pete has a great understanding and appreciation for all the facets of the EMS system and the vital role that proper training has in saving lives in the field. He brings real life, front line EMS experience to Allied Medical Training classrooms.
Pete enjoys free time spent with his wife of 18 years and four children. He is passionate about fishing, hunting, and everything outdoors. His perfect day is to blend his family with any outdoor activity.
Gabriel Gerow, Paramedic, MPIC
Gabriel has been an instructor with Allied Medical since 2013. He was trained as a Wilderness EMT by NOLS in 2010 and since then has worked in a number of remote locations including at sea along the west coast of Africa, coastal Louisiana during the Gulf oil spill, and forests, deserts and mountains in between.
He has been a trainer for 10 years and can be found teaching rope access and rigging when not teaching first aid. He recently completed a paramedic program.
Prerana Bhatia, MD, EMT
Dr. Bhatia has been an instructor with Allied Medical Training for over three years and is enthusiastic about active and engaged learning. Before attending medical school, she volunteered as an EMT. She has a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering degree and an MD degree from the University of Minnesota.
Jenny Skinner, MS, RD, EMT
Jenny has been working with Allied since its founding & has been an EMT for 12 years. She worked for a number of years for Life Link III, assisting with critical care transports.
While working full-time as an EMT, she went to graduate school for nutrition & became a dietitian. Along with answering questions on how to provide emergency medical care as you progress through Allied’s training, she would love to help you learn how to eat more vegetables!
Marven Ewen, MD, ABFM
Dr. Marven Ewen is a board-certified family physician licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin with over 20 years experience practicing family and emergency medicine in Minnesota. He received his MD from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and completed his Family Medicine Residency at the Regina General Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Dr. Ewen has worked with EMS personnel throughout his career and brings that experience and medical expertise into the classroom to enhance students’ learning.
