Sean Ewen, MD, NREMT

Founder & Executive Director

Prior to finishing medical school, Dr. Ewen worked as an EMT and EMS Supervisor with the University of Minnesota for several years.

He graduated Summa cum laude with a B.A. in Biology from the University of St. Thomas and received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Marven Ewen, MD, ABFM

Medical Director

Dr. Marven Ewen is a board-certified family physician licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin with over 25 years experience practicing family and emergency medicine.

He has worked with EMS personnel throughout his career and brings this experience and medical expertise into the classroom to enhance students’ learning.

Joanne Ewen, JD, NREMT

Director of Education

Joanne is an EMT, experienced mediator, and a former criminal justice professor. With an extensive experience in academia, she mentors students in her role at role at Allied Medical Training. Helping people achieve their goals is her passion in life.

In addition, Joanne is a member of the Regional Faculty for Multi Regional Training Center, an American Heart Association (AHA) training center. She organizes the AHA training programs offered by Allied Medical Training.

Jenny Ewen, BA, EMT

Program Manager

Jenny attended the University of Toronto, earning a BA in Professional Writing and History, specializing in medical writing.

Before joining Allied Medical Training, she worked at a Minneapolis-based magazine and then at Wunderman advertising, where she worked on print campaigns for a Fortune 500 client. She is an accomplished author of numerous print and online publications, including serving as Editor of our very own, The Allied Times.

james ewen

James Ewen, AAS, EMT

Program Manager

James has a degree in nanotechnology and professional experience in that field as an R&D scientist. He’s been bringing his incredible analytical skills to Allied Medical Training since early 2013. As the primary contact for EMT and EMR Initial students from orientation through their final exam, James enjoys seeing students transform into confident EMS professionals.

In his spare time, James plays rock music with his band, Electric Anthem, and brews beer. He’ll soon take his brewing to the professional level by opening, Wooden Hill Brewing Company in Edina, MN.

april tepfer

April Tepfer, Pharm.D, Paramedic

Instructor

Dr. Tepfer is a licensed pharmacist who specializes in pharmacology of the emergency medicine field. As an experienced ER pharmacist and Paramedic, she combines advanced medication knowledge with procedural emergency medicine experience rarely encountered in healthcare.

Pete Johnson, EMT, Firefighter

Instructor

Pete enjoys the learning process and working with students to help achieve their goals. He also provides EMT instruction at Centennial Fire Department, where he is an on-call firefighter and Fire Prevention Lieutenant. Pete has a great understanding and appreciation for all the facets of the EMS system and the vital role that proper training has in saving lives in the field. He brings real life, front-line EMS experience to students.

Pete enjoys free time spent with his wife and four children. He is passionate about fishing, hunting, and everything outdoors. His perfect day is to blend his family with any outdoor activity.

Prerana Bhatia

Prerana Bhatia, MD, EMT

Instructor

Dr. Bhatia has been an instructor with Allied Medical Training for over three years and is enthusiastic about active and engaged learning. Before attending medical school, she volunteered as an EMT. She has a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering degree and an MD degree both from the University of Minnesota.

chad larkin

Chad Larkin, Paramedic

Instructor

Chad has worked in EMS since 2011. He currently practices as a Paramedic with an Advanced Life Support ambulance service. His teaching experience includes leading youth on outdoor expeditions, teaching hunter safety and ecological awareness in a summer camp environment and teaching CPR/AED/FA courses.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s focusing on Public Health, Life Sciences and Sociology. He has been teaching with Allied Medical Training since 2013.

Jenny Skinner, MS, RD, EMT

Instructor

Jenny has been working with Allied since its founding & has been an EMT for 12 years. She worked for a number of years for Life Link III, assisting with critical care transports.

While working full-time as an EMT, she went to graduate school for nutrition & became a dietitian. Along with answering questions on how to provide emergency medical care as you progress through Allied’s training, she would love to help you learn how to eat more vegetables!
