Meet AMT: Bart E.

We interview our staff members for details on their EMS journey.

When/ Why did you first become interested in becoming an EMT/working in EMS?

I was first in becoming an EMT during my freshman year of college. I was Pre-Med, and I always wanted to work in an Emergency setting, so I figured something like an EMT program might be the best fit for me (also Ian from shameless looked pretty cool doing it so why couldn’t I).

Tell us about your experience in the EMS field. What jobs have you had?

I started my career in the Emergency Room at North Memorial. Lots of trauma and crazy stuff!

What is the most rewarding part about working in EMS?

I’ve become like a little book of knowledge since I started working in EMS. Understanding general first aid plus what to do in tough complex situations while keeping my cool has really developed me into a well-rounded person.

What is your favorite part about working for Allied Medical Training?

I love getting to learn and try out new clinical scenarios for the students. As a major theatre fan, getting to play with makeup and prosthetics and see how the students react when they see it is always fun for me (plus getting to yell and act crazy).

If you could give advice to someone looking to become an EMT, what would you tell them?

It isn’t as scary as it sounds. Working in EMS isn’t always doing CPR in the back of an ambulance and putting tourniquets on spurting wounds (it can be if you want to though!). There are so many ways you can use your EMT to work with patients and even just applying the knowledge to your everyday life.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I think mind control could be cool, not just because I could make people do what I want, but because then I could be able to see the world how others see it 🙂

Thanks, Bart!
